When you’re behind the wheel of a Honda vehicle, you will likely feel more confident thanks to the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies.* Many Honda models come standard with this technology, and all of them offer it as available. But what, exactly, is Honda Sensing®? Here, we outline the technologies you’ll receive in this suite and explain what they are, while also highlighting the vehicles that come with this package as standard.
Collision Mitigation Braking System™
Using a radar transmitter that is on the front of your Honda vehicle’s grille, the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) works to detect potential front-end collisions ahead, whether it’s with cars, cyclists, or pedestrians. It reduces the chance of a frontal impact by using visual and audio warnings, and will apply your vehicle’s brakes if you don’t respond quickly enough.
Road Departure Mitigation System
The Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) uses a windshield-mounted camera to track road markings and keep your Honda in its lane. It can detect multiple types of road markings, including yellow lines and white lines, and works specifically if you’re traveling between 45 and 90 mph. If you begin to drift from your lane, it will give you a visual cue and vibrate the steering wheel, finally sounding an alarm if these alerts are ignored.
Adaptive Cruise Control
When you’re using your cruise control feature, Adaptive Cruise Control will work to keep you a safe distance behind the driver you’re following. That means if the vehicle in front of you slows down, so will your car. It will also increase speed to the speed that is already set if it determines it’s safe to do so.
Lane Keeping Assist System
Staying in the middle of your lane is easier with the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). It uses the same windshield-mounted camera as the RDM system to detect lane markings, centering your vehicle if need be.
Traffic Sign Recognition
If you miss the speed limit sign you just passed, don’t worry – the Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) system will help you remember. This technology keeps track of the road signs your Honda passes on the go, sending you reminders of the speed limit when you need it.
