2018 Honda Accord vs 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Crossovers and SUVs may be all the rage, but the mid-size sedan segment is still going strong. The hotly contested segment is home to the 2018 Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata, two top sedans who go tire-to-tire every year. From design to efficiency, these two models aren’t holding back. Even so, it’s easy to see why the Honda Accord pulls ahead for another year.

Design

The 2018 Honda Accord, available now at Don Wessel Honda, arrives with an all-new design, giving it a distinct advantage over the aging Hyundai Sonata. The Honda Accord features a long nose that provides a sports car-inspired stare while a tapered rear end closes out the design.

Inside, the Honda Accord spares no expense at maximizing interior space. Premium materials line the entirety of the cabin, so much so that high-end trims feel more like luxury cars. While the Hyundai Sonata comes with tech features to match its competitor, it pales in comparison when it comes to materials and comfort.

Performance

The Honda Accord’s redesign means new and improved engines. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four cylinder arrives as the new base engine and produces 192 horsepower. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine tops the line with 252 horsepower.

The Hyundai Sonata features a 2.4-liter four-cylinder base engine that produces just 185 horsepower. The available 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine also falls just short of the Accord, coming in at 245 horsepower.

Efficiency

The Honda Accord’s base 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine earns up to an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.* The powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is rated for an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.*

The Hyundai Sonata, with its convention 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, earns up to an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.* The comparable 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine falls short as well with an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.*

There’s no doubt about it: the 2018 Honda Accord finishes ahead of its competition. To take a closer look, or to schedule a test drive, stop by Don Wessel Honda.
